Digital Khata: How to Keep Udhar Records on Your Phone (Guide for Shopkeepers)

A digital khata is a phone app that replaces the udhar register. You add each regular customer once, record every credit sale and every payment, and the app keeps their balance correct automatically. Udhar is part of how shops in Pakistan work. A regular customer takes atta and ghee today and pays at the end of the month. The problem is the register: pages tear, handwriting fades, totals are added wrong, and arguments start. A digital khata fixes this.
What is a digital khata?
It is a simple app that records two things for each customer:
- Credit (udhar) given — what they took without paying.
- Payments received — what they paid back.
The app subtracts automatically and always shows how much each customer owes. No adding columns at night.

How to keep udhar in Aswaaqo, step by step
- Open My Business in the Aswaaqo app (or the business website).
- Go to Settings → Features and turn on Udhar.
- Add a customer with name and phone number.
- When they buy on credit, add an udhar entry with the amount and a short note (for example "monthly sauda").
- When they pay, record the payment. The balance updates immediately.
- Check the list regularly to see who owes the most and follow up politely.
How to recover udhar without losing the customer
- Set a limit per customer and stick to it.
- Fix a payment day — for many families it's the 1st to 10th of the month, after salaries.
- Remind politely with the exact balance; a clear number avoids arguments.
- Reward on-time payers with a small discount or voucher (see offers and vouchers).
